Great Warrior Series - 2010 Roman Legionary
The Australian Perth Mint has just released the first coin from its Great Warrior Series,the coin depicts a Roman legionary in colour. Tough, courageous and highly disciplined infantry soldiers these professional legionaries formed the backbone of the Roman army, who where a formidable fighting force that conquered and controlled the vast Roman Empire. The legionary is dressed in a galea a metal helmet with cheek guards and a cuirass, his body armour comprising overlapping iron plates. The legionary is also wears an apron of leather strips featuring metal plates hanging from his belt and leather sandals.
