The $7.85 Million Silver Dollar

The Worlds Most Expensive Silver Dollar

A rare 1794 U.S. silver dollar has set a new record price, the Neil/Carter/Contursi specimen 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar has sold for $7.85 million. What makes this particular silver coin so rare is that it is the finest known 1794 dollar and several experts believe this could be the first silver dollar ever struck by the United States Mint. Steven L. Contursi, who has owned the 1794 Silver Liberty dollar for the past seven years confirmed thursday he has sold it to the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation of Sunnyvale for $7.85 million. The Flowing Hair silver dollar takes its name from lady liberty's flowing locks shown on the obverse of the coin, the reverse shows the words the United States of America with an olive tree and an eagle. The specimen is unique both for the quality of its imprint and the fine silver it was struck from, the pristine condition of the silver dollar coin has led experts to surmise that is has had plenty of special handling in the years since it was minted. The previous record price paid for a coin was $7.5 million for a U.S. minted 1933 $20 gold piece according to the American Numismatic Association.

New Canadian Silver Dollar

Proof Silver Dollar - 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Navy (RCM-2010)

A new 2010 Canadian Silver Dollar collector coin has been released.. KREN2ADFKPUZ

In 1910 Parliament passed the Naval Service Act to form the Canadian navy, a fledgling force that came to fruition during the Second World War when Canada built more than 120 corvettes to guard the North Atlantic. The Sackville was one of the original Flower Class corvettes that gained recognition for her exemplary service during the Second World War. In 1982, she was reconverted to her original state and now serves as The Canadian Naval Memorial to honour the heritage of the Canadian Navy.

Silver dollars gained status as collectibles in 1935 when the first silver dollar (Voyageur) was produced. As this is the 51st issue of the series, this coin is crafted with all the prestige of one of the Royal Canadian Mint’s most enduring series.

The HMCS Sackville, the last surviving corvette and living memorial to the Canadian Navy, its pennant number (K-181) clearly visible on its hull and its motto (Ready Aye Ready/PrĂȘt Oui PrĂȘt) in morse code.

New Britannia design for 2010…

A new design 2010 Silver Britannia will be released next year by the Royal Mint, the new design has been created by Suzie Zamit, since its release in 1997 the designs have been done by Philip Nathan… The Britannia comes in Silver BU and Silver Proof as well as a four coin Silver Proof set which consists of £2, £1, 50p and a 20p, produced in .958 silver as opposed to .999 silver this bullion coin is definitely one for the collection… Next years Britannia will come in a presentation box as opposed to the shabby plastic holder it has come in for the last few years this is a huge improvement and shows the mint is listening to collector and dealers…
